The Parson family in Astoria Oregon hook a cable from an antenna from the Astoria Hotel and connected their TV to it. Resulting in stable reception for people outside the city. The very first cable networks were operated locally, notably in 1936 in London in the United Kingdom and the same year in Berlin in Germany, notably for the Olympic Games, and from 1948 onwards in the United States and Switzerland.
